Best Xbox FPS: our top 10 first-person shooters

Ed ranks his favourites

Picking out good first-person shooters on Xbox isn't so much like shooting fish in a barrel as striding determinedly into the ocean in search of water. No other console can boast quite the same spread of triple-barrelled, iron-sighted, hair-trigger enjoyment. Nonetheless, with pretty much all the platform's remaining big hitters on shelves save Bioshock Infinite, we thought it was time for another of our preposterous top 10s.... read more

Best Xbox FPS: our top 10 first-person shooters

Postby ItchyRash » 08 Jan 2013, 18:11

Riddick was awesome. Two fantastic games in one package is a great deal. Thinking i've played near enough everything on this list. Halo 3 over Halo 4 for me. CoD 4 over Modern Warfare 2 and probably Bad Company 2 over Battlefield 3 as the campaign in 3 was god awful where as Bad Company 2 had a great campaign and great multiplayer. Not sure I would be able to add anything to this that I think you've missed out other than that though.

Bioshock would probably be my top choice.

EDIT: It just dawned on me that Half Life 2 and it's Episodes should be on here over near enough everything. Unless they are more than just FPS or the fact that they come on the Orange Box confuses matters.

Which is a pity as all three deserve a place on top shooters.
What do you get when you cross a joke with a rhetorical question?

I won't deny that, and don't want to come across like a dick, but I'm a stickler for the rules :D

Oops, yep, didn't spot the FPS section, so that's more my 'Top Shooters' list. Ah well!

Indeed, welcome to the forums mate. Have you played Binary Domain and Vanquish, by the way? Because if you're into Gears and Spec Ops, they should be right up your alley...

I played Vanquish a couple of years back- not all of my all-time favourites to be honest, but Platinum's style has been hit-and-miss so far for me anyway (I struggle to understand the Bayonetta fuss, and MGS Rising Revengeance isn't looking incredible either for me). I haven't tried out Binary Domain yet, may see if I can find it cheap somewhere.

I'm surprised how much I disagree with most of the above-mentioned games! Some glaring omissions for me, oxm....tut tut (I won't mention what they are for fear of troll-esque ridicule)

Fantastic call with Left 4 Dead, though I would argue as we stand here today Left 4 Dead 2 really offers the complete Left 4 Dead package, with it's copious DLC. All the way through I thought of L4D and wondered if it 'wouldn't count' for some reason or other.

Interesting that you chose MW2 over it's culture-changing predecessor, although there obviously are a lot of refinements in MW2.

Absolutely agree about Halo 3, it is a triumph and it made me sad to trade it in for the next Halo title in the series, and yet I'm still glad I did to have had such fun times with all the Halo games on the 360 (aside from Wars).

It's a close call for me between Bad Company 2 and BF3 really. The single player is entirely irrelevant all-told (I forced myself to finish it in BC2 before I traded it, and then proceeded to ignore it in BF3 entirely). Undoubtedly between them the defining games of my 360 playing, alongside Halo.

Good to see Bulletstorm and Borderlands 2 in there, just reminds me to get back and play them again really.

MW2... seriously? while a solid game it has none of the impact, feel or shock of CoD4 (just a shame the matchmaking has been left to rot)

Ed why bulletstorm, I honestly don't know why it gets so much praise. It was quite amusing sometimes but god was it a boring game, with enemies that never posed a threat and shooting them never felt satisfying because you were trying to shoot them off a ledge whilst doing a handstand and you missed their penis and didn't get the points.

Apart from that, you have good taste sir.
It's all in the game...
