I'm still convinced the "always online" thing is to do with maintenance and updates. We'll know more after E3 I suppose.

I would love to know what genius at MS decided to price an xbox like a mobile phone, more importantly I'd like to know how this is suceeding so much that MS are going to repeat the trick with the nextbox

I think part of the problem is there is confusion between "always online" as "online required".

I find it bizarre that they have plans to release an entertainment-themed Xbox with no gaming capabilities. An Xbox with no gaming capabilities? What is the world coming to?

At that price I'm not buying a new console, Microsoft can go screw themselves. 500 dollar one off fee, or 300 dollars and 10 dollars a month for 2 years. What a load of crap !

$500 is currently approx. £320. I remember paying about £300 for the Xbox 360 at Christmas about a year after launch with 1 game. As more details emerge about capabilities, exclusive games and features, I imagine my desire to buy at launch will rise. At present there is not enough to convince me, roll on May 21st!

To be fair I paid about that (circa £300) about a year or so after it had come out last time round so if that is the price plan then I'm game. Does it mean that if you buy the top price one that Gold is free for 2 years?

This sounds like live will be charged monthly if they're doing a monthly pay plan to buy the console. No way would i pay that they should be making it free. I would be ok with a £300 price tag as long as live is free or at least cheap. Btw im a loyal xboxer 75k gs 70ish games in my collection and yes i have a job and social life (what do you think xbox live
party is for ;p )

Why would they make Live free? The number of people with Gold has increased 18% in the last 6 months so it's obviously a business model that works rather than one that is driving people away. If anything Sony will expand the PS+ and start charging for their service as standard.
