"We underestimated how attached people would become to the characters," says Casey Hudson

BioWare took a pummelling during the controversy over Mass Effect 3's underwhelming ending, but as far as key creatives are concerned, that's all for the good. Speaking to OXM in an enormous series retrospective penned by US editor Francesca Reyes, BioWare's Casey Hudson, Dusty Everman and Mike Gamble have admitted that they "underestimated" fan demand for closure, and have promised to do better with subsequent releases.... read more

"There's no way they can put out an ending worse than Return of the Jedi, right?"

At least ROTJ's ending had closure and you know, actually made sense. There's nothing wrong with a happy ending, or an emotional one. The only thing that should matter is how well-written the ending is itself.

The day I get closure from dancing teddybear racial stereotypes is the day I carve out my own eyes with a spanner. ;)

at least RoTJ didn't end with Luke being given three multi-coloured options for how to blow up the Death Star by the Force Ghost of a dead Ewok the writers expected the audience to give a damn about, and at least it gave a proper conclusion to the trilogy without frakking "Speculation from Everyone"

No but it did massively over look the fact that you can't dismantle a military-industrial complex of several million people by killing the guy at the top, and that all they had really accomplished was plunging the entire galaxy into decades of civil war and power plays.

And it had Ewoks.
What do you get when you cross a joke with a rhetorical question?

I know how they could have made a better ending for RotJ

Death Star blows up Endor.

Mace Windu comes in and says "Enough is enough, I have had it with these mother******* Sith on this mother******* Death Star, everybody strap in, I'm about to open some ******* windows." He blasts open the window in the throne room and the emperor gets sucked out into space.

Then RotJ would have been perfect.

Hah! This is way worse than me not knowing who April O'Neil was.

Am going to regret this but who is April o'neil? And the end of return of the Jedi was flawed but not the worst ending of a movie. The ending of mass effect 3 was indeed disappointing, but I think anyone would have been hard pressed to end such an epic trilogy to the satisfaction of everyone.

I can survive the ending of ME3. What REALLY annoyed me was after playing through ME 2, deciding whether to blow up the ship or not and it having no real outcome in ME3, none

I still need to replay Mass Effect from the start and be deliciously evil to everyone the entire way through.
