You don't get to watch the apocalypse unfurl. The first you know of the ongoing downfall of mankind is when a grey humanoid lunges for your friend's throat. From that point on, State of Decay reveals itself slowly, but steadily.... read more

State of Decay Xbox 360

I was tempted by this but I got to the end of the review and it says 1600MPS, 1200MPS should be the limit.

1600 ouch
Sounds interesting, but not enough to warrant a purchase - I may get it if it goes on sale

Apparently this game is a prelude to a full-on zombie MMO by the developer. I'm prepared to buy this just to help that come to fruition - very few games have captured the essence of zombie movies, just focusing on combat alone and ignoring the survivor interplay and long term survival goals, which are a huge part of the genre.

With no checkpoints or save games, death is permanent.

Am I missing something? So you can't save at all? What if I want to stop playing?

And agree with Thos. Tempted to pay full price to to encourage the MMO

You only get one save file and you can't revert to previous saves - it's all automatic. I'll edit that bit to clarify.

They've talked about adding multiplayer down the road, IIRC. Will check.

Cheers Ed, that makes more sense. I was wondering if they were trying for some sort of extra realism by making you live the game in real time

Well, come to that you can't actually sleep in-game to pass the time :) If you want to rest a character you have to switch to another one. It's pretty hardcore.

I've heard that one before...

When a developer says "we may add in multiplayer as DLC", I tend to read "there will be no multiplayer".

The game still looks quite interesting and I may pick it up later in the year (either when it goes on sale or I have more money to throw at games).

I'd normally agree with you, but ever since this game was first rumoured (and using some terrible code name) they've said it's a launch pad for an MMO. As such I think they've released this to test the setting and concepts, and will then release the MP to see if it can cope with multiple players before finally releasing the MMO link up.

I'll definately be giving the trail a whirl later...but between the high price tag, and reasonable 7 I'll probably hold off buying until it goes on sale.

I'm not a big fan of zombies games, but I'd like to try this one. Will be a demo mode?

Definitely going to give the trial a whirl. 1600 points is quite a lot for an arcade title even if it is big though.
