Xbox Live update: what's new this week?

Gears DLC, Spartacus, D&D, Microsoft Studios sale

I can't tell you what a relief it is, right now, to write about current generation games. The past week or two has been a cavalcade of nastiness where the good ship Xbox One's concerned - hopefully, Microsoft is taking notes, and has already appointed a Vice-President of Being Down With The Kids to address matters. I'd recommend enlisting that Aisha Tyler lady from Ubisoft's E3 presser - she seems to be on the level. Anyhoo, on with the Marketplace discounts and additions.... read more

This week's deals haven't gone live yet, but they've mentioned that Fable III is part of the Games on Gold scheme, which will include Assassin's Creed 2 and Halo 3 next month.

Checking Major Nelson's blog, I see the whole Mountain Dew and Doritos promotional shenanigans are still going on.

The Doritos/Mountain Dew thing is literally amazing. They unveiled it moments before their E3 presser, for crying out loud. Jonty was practically in tears. Here, I'll copy-paste the email he sent me from the queue.

You might recall there being a big hoo-ha in the State of Games Journalism over an article which called out Geoff Keighley for doing product placement for Doritos/Mountain Dew. Brilliantly, MS has now partnered with them to pimp Xbox One.

A game journalist was made to conduct an interview while surrounded by Mountain Dew and Doritos. There was a picture released of him looking very nonplussed, which was used in an article saying "is this what gaming journalism has come to". I think it was the same article that named the ex-Squeenix PR who threatened to sue.

EDIT: Ed ninja'd me, and with names too!

Slightly off topic: Is there any word yet on when the Bioshock DLC will start to release? I've got a Season Pass burning a hole in my hard drive

I was looking at the season pass the other day and thought nah, I'll leave it be.

I normally would have skipped it as well, but Now TV sent me lots of points for doing their trial and since it was all SP storyline stuff I thought I'd take a gamble.

For me it's a toss up between that as lets face it, I'll probably get it all anyways barring any obviously rubbish pieces, state of decay, blood dragon and ME3 citadel.

I heard the Irrational Twitter account is the place for updates on the DLC. Seeing how many delays there were to the game itself, I wouldn't be holding my breath if I were you.
