Reviews are the single most reliable source of controversy in games media. For readers, they're unmistakable proof of our corruption and incompetence. For publishers, they're the thing that derails a previously perfect marketing campaign (which is why, increasingly, they don't show up until the day of release). For developers, they're a wilful misunderstanding of the game's true meaning and what held them back from that Metacritic-based bonus. Sad isn't it that the news you'll be doing more of these in the future has been the high point of my day so far
