Bioware designer Matt Rhodes equates the role of a concept artist to that of an explorer, "tasked with charting a world without sunlight." In Rhodes' case, he charted multiple worlds and the various lifeforms contained within them, and you don't complete that journey without a few ideas falling by the wayside.... read more

Never mind the flesh alien, I'm more freaked out by image 19. My life does not need a naked Martin Sheen in it

Hmm some interesting designs there...

I would have liked to see them do the Tali thing, I romanced her myself and I would be interested to see what everyone's reactions would have been.

Did I spy a couple of Hawke drawings in there?

I also am a bit worried about the naked Martin Sheen, OXM has scarred me for life. I did however like some of the other Tali concepts and the guy with four legs near the end though.

I did think a couple looked a bit more like Dragon Age than Mass Effect.

Love concept art, own 'The Art of Mass Effect'' and its really interesting to see just how many changes are made throughout development and what ideas are reworked into something else.

This is what I love about raw design material, it's often so much more disturbing and interesting than what we end up with! If the Illusive Man had shown up looking like...well...THAT, his final scene would have had a hell of a lot more impact as he potentially realised what he'd done to himself and his organisation. Also very impressed with the concept design on some of those Reaper units. You don't need to rub down machines with decaying flesh to make them more threatening as enemies.

You hear that, BioWare? Sometimes less IS more. Especially if it's clothing.
