Call of Duty: Ghosts runs at 720p on Xbox One, upscaled to 1

"We optimized each console to hit 60 FPS and the game looks great on both," says Rubin

This should go down well. Call of Duty: Ghosts will offer 720p visuals on Xbox One, Infinity Ward's Mark Rubin has confirmed, upscaled to 1080p. This is necessary, it seems, to ensure that the new shooter runs at the franchise's much-sung 60 frames per second.... read more

Of all the games I would care about running in 1080p, CoD isn't one of them. Have put up with little graphical tweeks since CoD 4 i'm just happy it's looks better

I think I want answers why this is! Forza can do it, why not CoD and Battlefield 4. Our unnamed counterpart can do it too. Very poor Microsoft.

Oh no I'm going to have less pixels, whatever am I going to do, I mean, sure, the rest of the game looks really incredible and they've optimised it for framerate stuff but none of that matters, not without my extra amount of pixels which gives a negligible difference to most people who aren't pixel purists.

I know it's next gen and everything should be the best it should be, but really if it's pixels you're after then you should be pc gaming. Console gaming has never been about being the best technically, though if pixels are your thing it makes deciding which console to get easier.

I'm not really that tech minded but will this really make any difference? I have a 42" TV and can't really see this being an issue, especially if I'm playing the game (although I have no plans to buy COD, its more for other games).

Earlier article from Microsoft developers. All this is just nonsense

We've chosen to let title developers make the trade-off of resolution vs. per-pixel quality in whatever way is most appropriate to their game content. A lower resolution generally means that there can be more quality per pixel. With a high-quality scaler and antialiasing and render resolutions such as 720p or '900p', some games look better with more GPU processing going to each pixel than to the number of pixels; others look better at 1080p with less GPU processing per pixel.

You'll only notice by staring at side by side screen shots. In motion it will be very hard to tell since its being boosted to 1080by the box anyway

Well, it is though really. He's not going to be disappointed when playing it, if he sees someone playing the ps4 version he wont notice any difference unless he sticks his face a foot from the tv - assuming it's huge enough and able to distinguish each pixel, and even then he'd probably ask what it is he is looking for that's different, and someone points out that if you look really close you'll notice it's a bit sharper. And he'll go 'oh, I wish I never bought the xbox one I could have had a few more pixels in CoD ghosts that make the experience no more enjoyable' Ah... hang on, hold on a minute... I'm assuming he's a man.
